Kaylah finds confidence on the court

As a shy kid, the challenge of meeting new people could easily have prevented Kaylah Dunstan from participating in sport.

However, the self-confidence and belief that Kaylah gained through basketball has helped her overcome that barrier and enjoy the various benefits sport has to offer – a message she endeavours to share with others through her roles as a coach.

Kaylah’s experience aligns with Increasing Access to Sport project findings, which noted that “a fear of judgement and perceived social pressure stopped youth in the Latrobe Valley trying new activities or joining new clubs”.

Check out Kaylah’s story below.

The Latrobe Health Assembly’s Increasing Access to Sport Project aims to identify and address barriers to youth sports participation in the Latrobe Valley. For more information, email GippSport Community Planning Officer Damen Francis at damen@gippsport.com.au
